Piano Recital

MINIATURES

Lately, I’ve been especially drawn to miniatures. There is something I love about having only a few minutes to create a complete world before it disappears and another one begins. Every miniature has its own color, atmosphere, style, and expression, and the challenge is to bring all of that together into something focused and complete.

Beethoven’s six Bagatelles and Scriabin’s twenty-four Preludes stay within that intimate world, each piece brief, but with a character of its own. In the extended version, Ravel’s Miroirs broadens this intimate world through five contrasting images, each with its own atmosphere, color, and movement.

The one-hour recital brings together Beethoven’s Six Bagatelles and Scriabin’s Twenty-four Preludes. In the full recital, these are followed after an intermission by Ravel’s complete Miroirs.
